It’s not often you become airborne in a car but that’s exactly what Andy Turner did at the recent Dixies Challenge Stages Rally – and it helped to propel him and co-driver Richard Winstanley into the winners’ circle.

Dixies Challenge Stages Rally

Simm’s Service Manager was the driver of the Simm Engineering Group / Atlas Copco liveried Citroen C2R2MAX rally car, competing at the rally on Sunday 1 May.

The event comprised 12 timed stages (45 competitive miles) over the notorious tarmac roads of the Epynt military ranges in mid-Wales.

Following heavy rainfall, the roads were treacherous and the going was tricky. Added to this, the team had to change a failing throttle body during one of the afternoon service intervals.

Seeded 18 out of 73 crews, the team put in a sterling performance, achieving 1st in class and 12th place overall.

Not content to rest on their laurels, they will be returning to the Epynt Ranges on 5 June for the Welsh Marches Mini Epynt Stage Rally.
